Close & Low

Give the subject height and volume by shooting at a low camera angle and tight framing.

Sculpture on the outside, flavor on the inside.

Food is such a loaded subject where we all have our own associations with each ingredient – both favorable and not-so-much. In photographing ingredients it’s a two-part challenge: 1. capture the sculptural qualities of the subject and 2. communicate the essence of the ingredient’s flavor to the viewer. Practicing studio shots of ingredients is something that I see in my near future – a personal project.

Shooting ingredients the come off as appetizing is a great exercise in controlled lighting, exposure and prop design.
