Keep In Mind

I rarely shoot a whole tree in one image and move on. There are many great characteristics and interesting vantage points to explore. I usually try to capture at least a few images of each subject before moving on.

Capturing the beauty of an incredible resource.

As with many large subjects, there can be challenges in photographing them creatively. I need to consider the surroundings, foreground and background elements. I typically try to simplify the scene, as most of my work tends to be very graphical and sometimes sparse. There is so much variety and interesting visual characteristics of trees; I never tire of them. Especially enjoyable is traveling to new places and noticing all of the photo ops found with that particular region’s trees.

I’ll always have a special affinity for palm trees, but I also appreciate sequoias, oaks, unique pines and flowering trees of all sorts.
